About
I might have lost my hair, but I kept the moustache.
I design and I facilitate. Same job, two angles. I draw the map so a room can see what it's deciding, and I shape the thing until it holds. I serve the work, not the workshop. I design for sustainability, not trends.
How it started
My grandfather had a line about me: JS never did things the way the other kids did, but we knew he'd turn out fine.
Eventually that kid had to pick a path. My father suggested I meet the graphic designer at his office. One meeting was enough.
Not long after, a G3 Bubble Mac showed up loaded with Photoshop 5.5, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and QuarkXPress. I still have it. It still works. Nothing came with a template back then, and no AI either. Imagine saying "vibe coding" out loud in 1999. You learned by pulling things apart and rebuilding them badly until they held. By the time I got to college, I had hours of that behind me.
I still do the same thing. Just bigger. Way bigger.

Leadership
Good leadership leaves no dependency. I build teams that are aligned around a vision, empowered to perform, and capable of growing on their own. Ideally without me.
I've led people across 3 teams at once and supported sales and marketing. I helped a company grow from 20 to 80 in 4 years. My measure of success is simple: when I leave, things get better, not harder. Not that I don't like being needed. I just prefer being missed.
Since 2019, I've been part of the core team of Intersection Group, the not-for-profit association behind enterprise design and the open-source EDGY language. I lead the development of its workshops. I'm also an EDGY contributor: co-author of its evolution, co-speaker and author of case studies.

Honors & Awards
In 40 years, only a handful of designers have received the Young Business Personality – International Outreach award from the Jeune Chambre de commerce de Québec. I'm one of them. My mother is very proud, and still not entirely sure what I do for a living.
That same mindset won us a Radio-Canada AI Hackathon in 2018. Not because we had the best technology, but because we understood what it was actually for. Turns out understanding the assignment beats owning a GPU farm.

Profile
Enterprise designer and facilitator with 20 years in design and research, 8 of them building and leading design teams. I specialize in aligning fragmented trades, teams and systems around a shared architecture, from strategic framing through to delivery. I've led transformation and design work for Hydro-Québec, Québec Tech, Sépaq, the UPA and Aliments du Québec, and for four large-enterprise SaaS products. For Soprema, I designed a building-products manufacturer's first real online product catalogue, where a specification error has structural consequences. Core team member of Intersection Group (50+ countries), co-creator of the Enterprise Design Patterns, EDGY certified and an EDGY contributor (co-author of its evolution, co-speaker, case studies). My position, backed by the work: AI-powered products succeed or fail upstream, in the architecture of data and content, not in the interface.
Experience
&friends
2022 – presentPartner, enterprise designer
Leads portfolio-level design and transformation work for public and private organizations, stepping in at the strategic level before delivery and setting the design approach that follows.
- SOQUIJ.
- An audit of Québec's legal information authority showed that missing metadata made decades of accumulated content invisible to search and unusable by automated systems. Our diagnosis, before LLMs reached the market: clean up the data and rebuild the information architecture so the content would be AI-ready.
- Hydro-Québec.
- Multi-year, multi-department engagement at one of Canada's largest electricity utilities: call-centre experience, shorter wait times, successive organizational transformations.
- Sépaq.
- Unified three connected surfaces (public site, transactional platform and planning dashboard) into one architecture covering dozens of parks and transaction types, replacing a legacy Java system weighed down by years of accumulated complexity.
- Québec Tech.
- Organizational transformation of the body the Québec government chose to lead tech exports: value proposition, business architecture, service portfolio and operating model for an international mandate, a first in Québec.
- Aliments du Québec.
- Independent audit of a certification platform under development. It redirected the project before major resources were committed: business processes restructured, information architecture and sitemap redone, preliminary wireframes as the new baseline.
- CSSDGS.
- Brought about 30,000 sites with no shared rules into one coherent architecture for a school service centre of 32,000 students. Three-year roadmap followed on budget and on schedule.
- NAT (ongoing).
- Leading the UX of a museum ecosystem designed from scratch (point of sale, CMS, interaction and analytics layers), with a connected object that adapts language, reading level and audio pace to each visitor.
JSDaigle
2020 – presentDesign and strategy practice
- Consulting firm (confidential).
- Four SaaS engagements for large enterprises, fully remote. Full cycle from discovery to validation, ending in development-ready business cases that decided whether each product went ahead.
Libéo
2012 – 2020UX/CX designer, business analyst and team lead
Designer at an 18-person open-source database firm; left an 80-person integrated agency after building and leading its design and front-end practice. Art director of the corporate brand. Hands-on information architecture and front-end (HTML/CSS, leading front-end developers). A few OCTAS awards.
- Soprema.
- First online catalogue for a global manufacturer of waterproofing and building-protection products. 500+ products and systems under compatibility rules where a wrong specification has structural consequences, designed to guide professional estimators under deadline pressure. Still the foundation of the site a decade later.
- OHdio (Radio-Canada).
- Merged two mobile products and two internal teams into one platform, for passive listening and active news browsing alike. 2.2M monthly connections, 4.7★, 77,000+ ratings.
- Autorité des marchés financiers.
- Web design and information architecture of the website of Québec's financial regulator: one architecture for four audiences and 16 page templates, live for more than 10 years.
- TAQ / UPA.
- Rule-based adaptive forms for an administrative tribunal, which became the reference model for later digitization; more than 100 sites brought together in an architecture built around relevance.
- Previsio (ÉEQ).
- Design Sprint and prototype of a free financial forecast tool for the École des entrepreneurs du Québec, still online.
- Société des traversiers du Québec.
- Designer on the mandate for traversiers.com: a page per crossing, service alerts by text and email, a customer account and online booking in four steps; launched in 2014.
- Showbizz.net.
- Brand identity and first website of a Québec entertainment news site: four colour-coded sections, full-width photos and topic files with a timeline; beta launched in November 2014.
- Nespresso.
- Design sprint and prototype for Nespresso Canada at the eCOM Lab 2017: the customer experience rethought through delivery, from the purchase confirmation to capsule recycling.
- AutoUsagée.ca (AMVOQ).
- Interface of the used-car marketplace of Québec's association of used-vehicle dealers: search, results, vehicle sheet and payment calculator.
- Matelas Dauphin.
- Mapped every operation of a 30-store manufacturer-retailer in a service blueprint, then designed an ERP unifying inventory, sales and factory orders. In testing, first-time customers configured custom products unaided, something that used to take a week of staff training.
Université Laval, School of Design
2026 – presentLecturer
Data and information visualization, undergraduate.
Facilitation and transformation
- Transformation results.
- At Sépaq, design sprints aligned 12+ departments over a year and left 12+ teams able to evolve the platform on their own; at the CSSDGS, a three-year roadmap followed on budget and on schedule. Transformation workshops at Hydro-Québec and Québec Tech, and strategic foresight with a dozen executives of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.
- Change in times of disruption.
- More than a dozen workshops at Radio-Canada (2020–2022) to set up remote collaboration while building new products; three months of workshops with iA Financial Group employees to design a head office that employees would choose to come back to.
- Design Sprint.
- Brought the Design Sprint and Design Thinking into a Québec agency and led a team that included sprint facilitators. Trainer since 2017 for Infopresse, Isarta and independently. With &friends, hundreds of sprints and workshops facilitated and hundreds of people trained in facilitation.
- Intersection Group (since 2019).
- Develops the community's enterprise design tools, methods and workshops; facilitated the co-creation of the Enterprise Design Patterns; EDGY contributor: co-author of its evolution, co-speaker and case studies.
- Aligning teams as much as products.
- At Radio-Canada (OHdio), merged two internal teams with different ways of working at the same time as two apps.
Applied AI
I use AI every day to automate much of my practice as an entrepreneur: invoicing, planning, research, first drafts and event operations, roughly 10× faster on repetitive tasks. The approach always starts from the system: map before automating, structure the data, prototype on a small dataset, then scale. Local data first, readable and editable by hand, and independent of any AI vendor. One shared database feeds a dozen small apps (expenses, content, communications, events), some used directly by collaborators and speakers.
The event management system, built for the Intersection conference, is now being developed as a SaaS: expense forecasting and tracking, speaker profiles filled in by the speakers themselves, websites synced live with the program, a publishing calendar, personalized badges for laser engraving, and tasks created automatically from requests arriving through different channels. The underlying conviction: architecture matters more than the model.
